Ski Club Provides Opportunities to Explore the Great Outdoors

Ski Club President Connor Davis is relatively new to skiing himself, getting his start with the sport in his senior year of high school.

According to Davis, his favorite part of the skiing experience isn’t just about the process.

“There’s a feeling, where it’s almost like you’re floating through the snow. Once you start to get to that point, you’re not thinking about the process of skiing. That’s when it really starts to get fun and you can focus on the scenery,” Davis said.

Not only is the Ski Club a great way for members to ski for free, it has also provided some members employment opportunities at Maverick Mountain, the club’s go-to resort located near Dillon, Mont.

“We have quite a few members that have gotten job opportunities and volunteer hours to add to their resumes through the club. We volunteer every week during the winter for the Jaycees’ Little Skiers Program. Our vice president, Eric Drissell, started as a volunteer there and now has a national certification and a great job at Maverick,” Davis said.

On top of their regular trips to the slopes, the club usually takes a trip each year to explore the snowy hills of far-off lands. Last year, the group spent spring break at the Grand Targhee Mountains on the border of Idaho and Wyoming.

The trips are all-inclusive, including housing, lift tickets and transportation.

Davis wants prospective members to know the club is “accepting of everyone no matter what else you do for hobbies, whatever your major is, no matter what your skill level is. It’s a good way to branch out, get new learning opportunities, and have fun.”
