Montana Western is proud to announce the six following high school seniors as the 2018-19 award recipients:
Austin is a student and star athlete at Helena Christian School, a captain on both the basketball and volleyball teams. Working as a camp counselor during the summers inspired her to pursue a career in elementary education.
Burke is a lifelong resident of Missoula. Her extracurricular activities include cross country, basketball, speech and debate, and tennis. She cites tennis as her favorite activity and has been the team captain for two years. She enjoys photography, podcasts, and hiking, and looks forward to living in Dillon.
Foley will graduate from Butte High School in May and plans to study elementary education at Montana Western. She is a varsity volleyball player and coaches a team of seventh grade girls in the sport. She is also a mentor in the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.
Hansemann, a Helena native, has her sights set on achieving her goals. A competitive archer, she represented Montana as a part of the 4-H National Archery Team in 2017. She plans to study business and marketing, utilizing her degree as an entry point into the world of advertising.
Kielley is a senior at Drummond High School. She participates in varsity volleyball, basketball, and track. She is also a member of Pep Club, Business Professionals of America, student government, 4-H, and the National Honor Society. She plans to earn an undergraduate degree in biology on her path to becoming a veterinarian.
Schell is a student at Helena High School. His parents named him for the city in Australia where they lived before moving to Montana. Well-travelled at a young age, he took his first steps on stone pathways along the Great Wall of China. He hopes to channel his diverse experiences into a career working for Nintendo as a game designer.
“We look forward to welcoming these high-achieving students to Montana Western,” said Chancellor Beth Weatherby. “They are fascinating, talented individuals who will add so much to our community. Congratulations to all six recipients of this well-deserved award that recognizes leadership and scholarship.”
