McCarvel: Joseph E. McCarvel Scholarship

Established by the family of alumnus Joseph McCarvel.

Awarded to an elementary education major with a minimum 2.5 GPA from Anaconda, otherwise a non-traditional student.

Bio of Joseph McCarvel

Joseph was born in Anaconda on Dec 27, 1935; the son of Thomas Joseph and Margaret Ridge McCarvel. He attended St. Paul's Grade School and anaconda High School, graduating in 1955. He received his Bachelor's from the College of Great Falls and his Masters degree from Montana Western. Joe taught school in Burley, Idaho and for 12 years had taught at Beaver Dam and Washington Schools in Anaconda. He was involved in a one year teacher exchange program, ITF, in Werbie, Australia. He left Anaconda in December 1986. Joseph was a dedicated teacher, loved and respected by his students and associated. He loved the outdoors and was an avid horseman. Joseph died April 14, 1987 in Australia.
